Samsung S7 and S8 – What’s The Difference?

So, Samsung S8 was launched today and everyone’s going crazy! But what exactly is there in Samsung S8 that is different from S7 and other Samsung mobiles? Let’s see.

After the failure of Samsung Note 7, it looks like Samsung has put a lot of effort into perfecting the S8. Samsung has definitely upped the game with an amazingly brand new design, a wider border-less display, AI personal assistant Bixby and more.

Samsung S8 Design is different from S7

The first thing that is different in the S8 is the wide display. It’s border-less and almost spills over to the edges. Just like the Galaxy S7, Samsung still uses the metal frame along with front and back glass covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. Samsung deleted the home button and replaced them with the on-screen ones on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. This is the big notable difference in S8.

S8 Display is better than S7

The Galaxy S7 had a 5.1-inch QHD display with at a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, but the new Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch dual-edge QHD panel with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels, and pixel density of 570 ppi. This enhances the display on S8 significantly.

Faster Hardware

Samsung S8 has significantly improved it’s hardware making it faster than S7. Galaxy S7 was powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 820 quad-core SoC and Samsung’s 64-bit Exynos 8890 octa-core SoC. Both chipsets are made on 14nm fabrication process. The smartphone features 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage with microSD card slot for further expansion.

However on the Galaxy S8, Samsung has upgraded its chipset. The smartphone is either powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 835 SoC or Samsung’s 64-bit Exynos 8895 octa-core SoC. And while the new smartphone still has 4GB of RAM, Samsung has upgraded the internal storage to 64GB. A microSD card slot for further expansion up to 256GB is also present.

Camera is the same, slightly better

Both the S7 and S8 feature the same pixel resolution camera at 12 Megapixel. But the S8s camera have optical image stabilization, phase detection auto-focus, and 4K video recording capabilities. So, basically it’s better software on the Samsung S8.

Battery is pretty much the same

Both S7 and S8 is pretty much the same with fast charging capabilities.

Here is the entire list of differences between Samsung S7 and S8.

S8 is better software overall, with some significant improvements in hardware like processor speed and display.
