If you are waiting for a good 4G data plan, you might be in luck. Reliance just announced that their 4G data plan (now being offered only to Reliance employees) will soon be available for the public at rock bottom prices.
Currently AirTel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone are the major players (current 4G data plan rates here) and have rates starting from Rs. 100. But with Reliance’s entry, it looks like their prices will also change. All the CDMA customers who have opted for 4G data will start getting 4G options since next week (June last week 2016) according to PTI sources.
Rcom (Reliance) has a customer base of 8 million and almost 90% of them have opted for 4G network service, so this is going to be huge. By mid-July, Reliance plans to expand their 4G data service to six more circles — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan — but only after DoT’s approval, which is currently pending.
The bad news is that older CDMA handsets/mobile phones may not work with 4G network and might have to be changed. But for better speeds, you wouldn’t mind changing your handset – do you?
