A career in law is still a prestigious thing in India. Gone may be the days when you had only Doctor, Engineer and Advocate as career choices but studying law is still much in demand among Indian youth. To pursue a career in law and become lawyer one requires to possess a degree in law. LLB requires five year to complete for 10+2 candidates while graduates can complete in three years. On completion of the course you can opt to practice law for central or state government and even have opportunities to work in Defense, Tax and Labor Law departments. You also have options to work as legal advisor in private companies.

Eligibility – Who can apply to law colleges?

You need to secure 50% marks in aggregate in your 12th exams or an equivalent diploma course for Common Law Entrance Examination. For the 5 year course in LLB you need to complete to complete 20 years but for the three year course you need to complete at least 17 years.

National Academy of Legal Studies and Research

The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research has specially designed courses with apt specialization for law students. Faculty of Law, University of Delhi

The Delhi University is the largest University in India. They have around 16 faculties, 86 academic departments and 77 colleges in India. The LLB and the LLM course requires the candidate to have secured 50% aggregate in graduate/post graduate course from Delhi University or any recognized university. OBC category has 10% less marks in the Entrance exam. The LLM program is for 2/3 years and have a total of 6 semesters.

School of Law, Cochin University of Science and Technology

School of Legal studies was formed in 1962 and later it joined with Cochin University in 1986 to be renamed as Cochin University of Science and Technology. The five year B.B.A/B.Com. LL.B.(Hons.) Course requires you to complete at least 12th with at least 60% marks for science stream and 55% marks for commerce stream. Now the selection to the course will be made purely on the merit score of the Common Entrance Examination Results. The three year LLB degree requires 40% marks from any recognized university. Here again the selection will be made on the basis of entrance test conducted by University of Law. They also have the 2 year LLM program where admission is done on the basis of Common Admission Test, Group Discussion and Interview.

Gujarat Law University

Gujarat Law University was established by the Government of Gujarat and it is a member of Bar Council of India. Their programs include the undergraduate five year BA/B.Com/BBA/BSc/BSW LL.B. (Hons.) and the post graduate LLM as well as Financial Management and Business Law. The undergraduate requires you at least complete 10+2 with minimum of 45% in aggregate and 40% marks in case of SC/ST. The eligibility of one year LLM program requires degree or equivalent degree with a minimum 55% marks. The MBA (Financial Management and Business Laws) is a complete 2 year program which focuses on training the candidates for multinational companies, banking houses and public sector undertakings.
