Monsoon is a beautiful season of Kerala and it is celebrated with great happiness as it comes after the long summer months. The showers are pretty heavy and they can sometimes go on for days. Tourists from different parts of the state as well as other countries visit Kerala at this time to experience the beauty and magic of this season. It is also believed that monsoon is the apt time for undergoing Ayurvedic rejuvenating therapies. Munnar is a hill station which falls in the Idukki district of Kerala.It’s famous for tea gardens and it’s a home to many endangered species of animals.There would be heavy showers during monsoon season but if you enjoy relaxing and tasting the special Munnar tea this would be ideal holiday spot.

Thekkady

Thekkady is situated in Idukki district and it’s famous for the Periyar National Park .The park is spread over 777 sq km  of valleys, hills and you can spot many tropical as well deciduous forests. It experiences heavy showers during monsoon season but it is said that some animals come out during monsoons. Some of the popular attractions in the park are bamboo rafting and night patrol in the jungle.

Kumarakom

Kumarkom is famous for the houseboat stays and it has numerous top notch resorts by the Vembanad Lake. It’s an excellent holiday spot and most of the resorts offer the Kerala Ayurvedic treatments. Varkala is about 50 Km away from Trivandrum and its a coastal region with red cliffs.The 2000 year old Janardana Swami Temple and the Sivagiri Mutt are famous landmarks here. There is a famous Ayurvedic treatment centre near the Papanasam beach.The backwaters, green palm trees,springs all add to the beauty of this Varkala.

Mattupetty

It is located at a height of 1700m and is approximately 13 km away from Munnar.It’s famous for tea plantations and is habitat for some rare species of birds. Other attractions here is the Mattupetty Dam and the Kundalla lake which is ideal picnic spot. Speed boats and motor boats are available for hire. This place experiences heavy rains but you can still make short tours to see around Mattupetty.
