Caller ID is God given. With the flurry of marketing calls and spam, I can’t tell you how important it is to know who is calling you. In India, there is no regulation whatsoever on who can/cannot call you and if your number is on a database, chances are that some company will buy it out and start calling you with offers.
But those of you with smartphones know how easy it is to find out who is calling. There are several apps like TrueCaller (A Swedish company) that will flash the caller number on your phone screen during the call. But what about those with feature phones? (Nokia 3310?)
If you are in India and you are using AirTel, you might be in luck!
AirTel is all set to partner with TrueCaller and will provide the service to it’s subscribers on feature phones via subscription. What that means is that, now even people on feature phones can find out who’s calling them this way.
How does it work?
Well, as you know on smartphones, you have large displays where the caller’s ID is shown during the call. But on feature phones, you will be send an SMS text just before the call with whereabouts of the caller. So you can choose whether or not to attend the call.
Now, I’m entirely sure how long there is time between the SMS and phone call for you to be able to make a decision. Perhaps you can attend the call while reading the SMS or not attend the call after having read the SMS. We’ll have to wait and see when this feature is going to be available and launched in India by AirTel.
One other important fact is that this feature will be available to you even without data. Perhaps heavy data users can make use of this feature too!
