And now,Facebook has introduced a whole new feature in its page called “the marketplace” for peer-to-peer shopping. This allows the users to browse any items for sale in their neighborhood. This section was introduced on 3rd October 2016. The new feature is located via a tab inside the Facebook mobile app.
Each of the listing will have complete information about the item on sale, photos, description and price at which its sold. This allows the buyers to even message the sellers instantly and ask if the products are still available or not. It is easy as the buyers can make the arrangements in picking up the item and the payment because Facebook does not get involved in the payment part.
Anybody of age 13 are allowed to join Facebook but this particular feature can be used only by a person of age 18 or above. Facebook is no longer a medium to create a social circle or keep in touch with your long lost friends. This has become a medium to even sell and purchase goods. The extent to which Facebook is involved in our day to day life has become magnificent. Earlier, people used to make “for sale” posts and share it among their friends, but now the process is formalized by adopting the classified concept.
Craigslist thrived in the US market as one of the lowest common commerce denominator. It was flexible and was launched before many rivals. The only disappointing factor is the lack of features that you can see in the present feature introduced by Facebook.
What are the three main features of marketplace?
- Browse To Buy – Marketplace opens a window of filtered feed of items you can buy in your community.
- Sell Your Stuff – You need not set up a new profile for selling your goods, this is easy! You have to snap a photo, add description, seller details and post it.
- Search Your Surroundings – You have option to even filter using areas, locations, price or through a map.
It is also said that Facebook Marketplace is a reboot of a similar service launched in 2007. In 2009, Facebook handed over the classifieds ad network Oodle and eventually the feature also disappeared.
Anyways, this features is only available to the US, UK and Australian crowds and pretty soon this will be launched globally. Facebook’s ceaseless quest to eat up the internet world continues..
