Haven’t we all wondered that how convenient it would be to travel around the city on different transport modes with a single mode of payment? The time has finally come for Delhiites who will be able to travel on metro trains, DTC buses using a “Common Mobility Card”. This program was launched by the city Government for seamless travel on different modes of public transport.
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has decided to install Electronic Card Readers on the buses to allow the users to buy bus tickets. DTC is also planning to launch a Smart Card for DTC buses which can be used on the Delhi metro as well.
How to use the “Common Mobility Card”?
After boarding the bus, passenger needs to hand over the mobility card to the conductor, who will swipe the card in an e-ticketing machine (ETM) to authenticate the “start” of the journey. After reaching the destination, the passenger will have to swipe the card again in the ETM to “terminate” the journey and make payment using the same card. The fare will be deducted automatically from the card.
The project will be launched in phases. Eventually, the plan is to ensure that people are able to use any mode of transport in Delhi, including auto-rickshaws and taxis, using the smart card.
