Best Air Conditioners in India (Energy Saving)

India is burning hot today. Without an air conditioner it is impossible to live in almost any city of India today. Thanks to global warming, temperatures across the country has been rapidly growing last couple of years. (BBC – Why India’s temperature is rapidly rising). It is projected in the next couple of years south east Asian countries will see a steady increase in temperatures for over 2 degrees. With this in mind, the only practical solution city dwellers in India can think of is to get a good A/C (Air Conditioner) installed in their homes to keep temperature under control.

In this article, we’ll take a look at the different Air Conditioner brands in India under different categories. Let’s start with the cheapest Air Conditioners in India.

Cheapest Air Conditioners in India (Less Than 20,000 Rupees)

Luckily, there are several cheap air conditioners in India to choose from. These are not energy efficient and are mostly window A/Cs but they do their job really well.

In India, energy efficiency is of utmost importance as energy costs are higher. Air Conditioners can consume a lot of energy if not properly maintained. Also, care has to be taken when you buy the A/C to chose an energy efficient one. Here are some of the best energy efficient air conditioners that are popular in India.

3. Carrier 1.5 Ton, 5 Star Superia Split Air Conditioner

Best Split ACs in India (Less Than 50,000 Rupees)

Split A/Cs are different from window Air Conditioners in that they are more aesthetic and pleasing in design. Also, you can install them inside the rooms without carving out a part of your window or walls. Easy to install, pleasure to the eye and has more fancy functions compared to window Air Conditioners, that’s why people prefer split ACs. Having said that, they are pricier compared to window A/Cs. Below are my recommendations for the best split ACs in India, under 50,000 Rupees.

Just like carrier, another great brand that has made their name in the Air Conditioner category is blue star. This is their most popular AC and comes at a price of Rupees 41,000. But the feature list is very impressive. Auto Restart with Memory Backup, Silver Ion Filter, Anti-Acarien Filter, Self Diagnosis LED Display, Dust Filter, Auto Mode, Sleep Mode, Tonnage: 1.5 Ton, Dry Mode, Active Carbon Filter, 5 Star Rating, Anti-Bacterian Filter, Catechin Filter, I Feel Vitamic C Filter. Now, that’s quite a deal!

Things to keep in mind when buying an AC in India

Air Conditioner’s Capacity: Depending on the floor size of the room, capacity of an air conditioner should be considered when buying. Before buying AC, take a rough estimate of your room. For a room of 120 ~140 Sq. ft. area, you will need 1 ton AC, for 150 ~180 Sq. ft. area you will need 1.5 ton AC and for 180 ~240 Sq. ft. area you will need 2 ton cooling capacity air conditioner.

Energy efficiency: Electricity costs are constantly rising in India. With that in mind, it is always adviced to buy and AC that is energy efficient. All Air conditioners in India come with star rated energy efficiency ratings; also called EER, which is standardised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Any unit with more stars will consume lesser electricity than one with a lower star rating. For example, a 1 Star rating AC will consume more power than 4 star rating Air Conditioner.

Quality of Air: Air quality is very important as it may even affect your health. Poor Air conditioners produce foul air that will affect your respiratory system. While buying ACs at home ensure that you have good air filters on the AC. A good filter not only ensures clean air but also enhances the cooling performance and energy efficiency of AC by preventing the choking of evaporator coil due to dust.

In my opinion, when buying Air Conditioners in India, do not go for the cheapest one. Cheap means there are several compromises being made, like poor air quality, not being energy efficient and maintenance problems. There is however no need to go for the most pricey ones as well. Go for a medium range A/C that is fit for your room size and ensure that is is good quality. The above mentioned Air Conditioners are all good in their own respective categories. Let me know if you have any questions.
