Aeronautical engineering is a great option for those with an acumen for engineering and is much in demand compared to all other engineering courses in India. Engineering colleges in India offer bachelors, master and doctorate programs for aeronautical engineering. The main idea of this course to get an in-depth knowledge in the field of aviation, space exploration and defense. This course is available in number of colleges but here is list of the top colleges in India that offer this degree.

Qualification for Aeronautical Engineering

For joining the aeronautical engineering course you need to complete 10+2 with 50% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Diploma holders can also apply for this course but they must get 50% marks in class 10.

Indian Institute of Bombay

This is one of the top colleges in India to offer aeronautical course and it was second IIT to be recognized in our country in 1958.The department of aeronautical engineering was formed in 1966-67 and it was later renamed as Aerospace Engineering in 1992. This college facilitates undergraduate, graduate and research in aeronautical science. The undergraduate program selection is made on the basis of the rank from the Joint Entrance Exam conducted. The B.tech program is for period 4 years and eligibility is 10+2. They also have dual degree program which for 5 years and is a combination of degree as well as post graduate program. The Master’s program offers specialization in Aerodynamics, Dynamics and Control, Propulsion, Structures and Systems Design and Engineering.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur

IIT, Kanpur was established in 1956 and is one of top colleges which provide the highest standard in technological innovation. The Aeronautical department has over 40 years of experience and provides both graduate as post graduate courses for its students. In terms of infrastructure this is the first college to introduce The B.Tech admission is made on the basis of the score on the Joint Entrance Examination results. This course covers basic sciences, engineering sciences, humanities and social sciences, and elective subject selected. For the M.Tech program the candidate must have completed B.Tech in the respective field and they need to pass the written test.

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science

Located in Tamil Nadu the Hindustan Institute of Technology also offers courses in aeronautical engineering. The B.Tech program is for 4 years and to be eligible for the course you should be 10+2 with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. For the M.Tech program you should be B.E. / B.Tech. (Aero. / Aerospace / Civil/ Mech. / Mechatronics)/ AMIE / AMAeSI (Aero). This college is known for its highly qualified faculty and its excellent infrastructure. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Indian Institute of Science Bangalore is one of the premier institutes of the country and has been in this field for more than 100 years. Aeronautical engineering department started in 1942 and is one of the oldest engineering department in the institute. It is known for the providing the best academic as well industrial knowledge in terms with the current trends. The B.Tech program is for 4 years while the masters M.Tech program is for 2 years. The curriculum for the program is fundamentals of propulsion, automatic control guidance, theory of aerodynamics, material science, structural analysis, fluid dynamics and electronics.

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

IIT Madras is known for its highest technological education and research. It was established in 1956 and the campus covers an area of around 250 hectares. It has about 16 academic departments and has numerous research centers for its candidates. IISS, Trivandrum is one of the best aeronautical engineering departments in the country and is one of the oldest colleges in the country. Satyabhama University

Satyabhama University is located in Chennai and offers some of the best engineering courses to the aspiring students. It has a ISO 9001:2008 certification and is among the top 25 colleges in India. The Aeronautical engineering B.Tech program is for 4 years while the Master program is for 2 years. Admission will be granted on the basis of the results of the Common Entrance Examination and it will be purely based on merit. The university also offers special scholarship programs but to be eligible the candidate must have at least 75%.

Manipal Institute of Technology

Manipal University offers numerous courses in higher studies along with aeronautical engineering. They have both Bachelors as well as Master’s program for its aspirants. It was set up 1957 and it is one of the first self-financing colleges of India. They also carry out research programs sponsored by s DST, CSIR, AICTE and the Ministry of Environmental Sciences. Aeronautical course basically focuses on design, construction, maintenance, safety of aircraft equipment’s. Indian Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, Deharadun

This college is among the very few to have all aircraft facilities to train and conduct classes. The aeronautical course has tie ups with overseas university and is among the top colleges in India. The Bachelor’s degree program comprises of 2 years of training at Dehradun College and later 1 or 2 years at UK University with work or internship. Eligibility is 10+2 with 50% marks in aggregate. Now the International Graduate is for 3 years and the similar Master degree is for 2 years.
